Brevard County Students Thrive in Community Coding Competition

Melbourne, FL - This November, Codecraft Works will be returning as an event sponsor for Brevard Schools’ annual Innovation Games STEM event. The Innovation Games is a collection of competitions and activities for 4th through 12th graders in Brevard County, sponsored by Northrop Grumman, Codecraft Works, and other local organizations. For its sixth year in a row, Codecraft Works will facilitate a Codecraft Computer Programming Competition for the event, with separate tournaments for each age group.

The Codecraft Computer Programming Competition (CCPC) framework leverages Codecraft’s browser-based web and game programming environments. This competition framework was designed and developed within Codecraft’s flagship online programming application. Using a CCPC, Codecraft Works is able to effectively host, process, and evaluate competition entries from our local students.

The Innovation Games CCPC

This year, Innovation Games coding competitors will create projects using Scratch, web development, and Python skills, depending on their age group.

Elementary Scratch Programming projects will be created using the Scratch computer programming platform. Last year, our elementary competitors were instructed to make an original, informative, and compelling game or web story that features an innovator or innovation from a STEM field.

Check out their winning projects:

Middle school Web projects will be written with HTML and CSS code in Codecraft Works’ web editor. Last year, our middle school competitors were instructed to research scientific discoveries, inventions, or innovations achieved by people in STEM fields and create a web project or web story reflecting on the innovation and its impact on society.

High school Tic-Tac-Toe projects will be written in the Python programming language in Codecraft Works’ Tic-Tac-Toe editor. Our high school competitors are instructed to create “Player” programs that will be run in a bracketed tournament through Codecraft’s Tic-Tac-Toe Interface. Multiple games of tic-tac-toe are played per matchup, and winners advance through the bracket until there is a single Player left standing.

Like last year, the high school Python tic-tac-toe tournament will be played live for spectators in the auditorium. High school students and teachers can look forward to the highly requested Python “Battlescript” competition category coming in 2026!

Get Involved with Local and Virtual STEM Opportunities

In providing this opportunity, Codecraft Works collaborates remotely with industry experts, engineering students, and educators from Codecraft Foundation, Brevard Public Schools, Eastern Florida State College, and other organizations to evaluate and provide feedback to our local students. If you are a STEM professional or student that would like to volunteer a few hours of your time in early November, we would love to have you! You can read more information and sign up at code.cr/ccpcvolunteer. Those interested in more long-term volunteer opportunities are encouraged to fill out a volunteer application with the Codecraft Foundation!

Codecraft Works is proud to continue supporting efforts that encourage a passion for STEM! Whether you’re a staff member, a student, or part of a community group or out-of-school club, we welcome you to bring the excitement of coding to your community!
